MD, Nordics, Entertainment Group – to rescue performance from a former market leader
In this market within this sector, this was always going to be a tough call. Especially given a failed search six months earlier. This made it especially sensitive. The client was expecting little by way of results; surely the market had already been covered? Surely you had to be operating from a local office? As with a lot of cases, the answer was no – and those directly in their industry are often not clear on who will and will not move from their competitors and why. There is no barrier to entry for an effective and hard working search Consultant, who can readily and quickly establish rapport and build a network with the movers and shakers in a target country in their chosen sector. In this case, the hire was high profile, a candidate not attracted previously, who was exactly what the client wanted. 12 months later, the 2009 Q1 EBIT alone exceeded the total EBIT for 2008, not a bad return on investment for the search fee and salary increase.
CEO Television, Central & Eastern Europe – Free TV Stations facing a challenging market
Another need to turn round performance, this business was well known and respected but not making the most of its assets and programming potential. It needed a CEO with drive and vision to take things to the next level. Locally the client felt they knew everyone already, so wanted a cross border search No problem for us, that’s our bread and butter! We made comprehensive search of the TV & Film sector and well known Consumer Brand companies internationally to find locals, ex-pats with country experience and bi-lingual candidates from the European region and the US. The client said we produced an excellent and highly motivated shortlist and liked three of the finalists, one was selected and is in place, doing well and hitting targets. By the way, he was a local (who had worked internationally), CEO of a well known company, so it’s a good job we didn’t take the client’s advice in this instance and ignore the home country market.
